Where are the best Southern Caribbean beaches to visit while on a cruise?

When it comes to cruise vacations, taking a trip to the Southern Caribbean is definitely off of the beaten path. On these cruises, passengers will travel to smaller, less populated islands. If you want to spend some time sunbathing on sparsely-populated beaches, the Southern Caribbean is truly the place to visit.

Here are some of our favorite Southern Caribbean beaches:

Bottom Bay Beach, Barbados

Many locals say that Bottom Bay is the best beach on Barbados. You’ll often see pictures of it in travel magazines because its coral cliffs and coconut trees make for a striking backdrop.

The waves at Bottom Bay Beach are very strong, so swimming is not recommended. It is, however, a popular picnic spot. During your time here, you can sit back, relax and listen to the Calypso bands that play on the beach during the day.

Eagle Beach, Aruba

Eagle Beach is one of the largest on the island, but also has plenty of space. Located away from most of the larger resorts, visitors can stretch out and stay cool while they lounge in beach chairs with umbrellas.

A few times a year, Eagle Beach is dotted with markers to protect turtle nests. If you happen to be on the island when the eggs hatch, be sure to spend some time observing the hatchlings conquer sand and predators as they make their way to the ocean. It’s a unique experience that you shouldn’t pass up.

Hawksbill Beaches, Antigua

Antigua’s Hawsksbill Beaches are four separate stretches – Royal Palm Beach, Sea Grape Beach, Honeymoon Cove and Eden Beach – that are grouped together. All are very secluded, and offer a low-key atmosphere that many vacationers crave. If you want to be a bit more active, you can also rent swimming and snorkeling equipment from beach vendors.

Vacationers with children may want to note that Honeymoon Cove and Eden Beach are clothing-optional locations. Those who are a bit more modest may want to stick to Royal Palm and Sea Grape.

Pinney’s Beach, Nevis

Pinney’s takes its name from the family that lived on the island for several generations. The beach is three miles of quiet and pristine coastline spanning from Charlestown to the north end of Cades Bay. Large stretches of the beach are undeveloped, so don’t be surprised if you see pelicans or herons fishing. It’s likely that you’ll also run in to the brightly-colored fishing boats that locals use.

If you want to kick back with a drink, Sunshine’s beach bar, Chevy’s Calypso Bar and Double Deuce Beach Bar are all located on the southern end of Pinney’s. For more information visit Nevis Island on Facebook or the Nevis Blog.

Seaquarium Beach, Curaçao

This beach is only 1,600 feet long, but has plenty to offer. Sequarium is divided into three sections: Mambo, Kontiki and Cabana. No matter where you choose to relax, you’ll find plenty of chairs and thatched shelters. If you have small children in-tow, Seaquarium is one of the best places to visit, as it has shallow water.

At night, Seaquarium becomes a party hotspot. Lined with bars, the beach becomes very lively, especially on Sunday nights. After 11 p.m., only visitors over the age of 18 are allowed to enter the beach area. For more information visit Curacao on Facebook.
