What’s a good book to read while on a cruise?

When I prepare to leave on a cruise vacation, one of the things I think about is what book or books am I going to bring. If you’re an avid reader, finding the right book for your vacation is a priority. Then with your book in hand, find a lounge chair with a view of the ocean (and make sure there is a beverage station nearby–preferably with an attendant at your service), settle in and let the vacation begin. While everyone else is enjoying the pool, you dive right into your book. The  CruiseExperts.com staff has compiled a list of recommended reads while on a cruise. So if you’re getting ready to embark on your vacation, here’s a list of books we consider ideal for reading on a cruise vacation.

julie-wrighthow-to-win-friends-and-influence-peopleHow to Win Friends and Influence People – When I’m on vacation, I actually prefer to read books for personal development. I’ll read books like Dale Carnegie’s How to Win Friends and Influence People, or any of John Maxwell’s books on leadership. My other favorite books are from Zig Ziglar, Stephen Covey and Kenneth Blanchard. These books help me with not only business and leadership skills, but with every day people skills. I’ve learned we should always be working on improving ourselves – even on vacation!–Julie Wright, Marketing

michelle-smickjanet-one-stephanie-plumAny of the Stephanie Plum novels by Janet Evanovich would make a good book to read while on a cruise. They are short, funny, light-hearted and easy to read. One doesn’t want to be serious or think too hard when on vacation and these books will make you laugh out loud.–Michelle Smick, Accounting

mr-mercedesMy vote is anything by Stephen King or Dean Koontz….Stephen King’s new summer thriller “Mr. Mercedes” just came out. And Dean Koontz’s new “The City” comes out in July.–Martha Arnold, Agent

the-red-tentlinda-brandt-072014-bio-smallThe Red Tent by Anita Diamant has always been a favorite. If you love historical fiction, this book takes you back to the time of Moses as told by the women in his life. It gives a look into what it was like to be a woman in those days. It captures you quickly from the beginning and keeps you engaged to the end.–Linda Brandt, Marketing

andy-mellilidonavan-creedI love to read a series because if the characters are well developed and relatable you get to just flow from one book to another.  One of my favorites is the Donovan Creed series by John Locke.  Relatable just may be stretching it a bit because the series centers around the exploits of a brilliant wealthy hired assassin.  He really does come up with very ingenious ways to kill people.  I know, sounds sick, but it doesn’t take long for you to be totally into the character and after all, most of the dead people are bad.  Right now there are 11 books in the series.  They’re all a comfortable, fast read, guaranteed to hold you spell bound.  Long before the end you’ll be cheering for the “bad” guys.  Perfect for vacation reading.  $2.99 a book on your Kindle e-reader.–Andy Melilli, Vice President

rachel-brandonImpassionedIf you like romance novels, I recommend Impassioned by Nelly d’Este. It’s a contemporary romance about finding love on a Mediterranean cruise. A young woman loses weight and takes a Mediterranean cruise and meets a sophisticated yet gentle man and they fall in love.–Rachel Brandon, Agent

michelle-lowery-lothe-slight-edge-by-jeff-olsenThe only time you will find me reading on vacation is one of two places… on the plane or on the elliptical in the gym in the early morning for 1 hour (which only happens if the evening before wasn’t a long one, if you know what I mean!)  Like Julie Wright,  I too enjoy reading books on self-improvement,  leadership, and or spiritual.  Some of my favorite Authors are Jeff Olson – Slight Edge , Darren Hardy- The Compound Effect, anything by Jentezen Franklin  – currently reading The Spirit of Python.–Michelle Lowery, Agent

jenna-voice-in-the-windI would probably take a book by Francine Rivers. The 20th Anniversary edition of   A Voice in the Wind  just came out.  FABULOUS book – I might be content to sit in a deck chair and not even leave the ship if I had this book.  I love a good Christian historical novel…. A little bit of romance in there always helps to keep my attention too! —Jennifer Briscro, Group Coordinator
