Top 3 Places to Eat When Cruising from San Francisco

Embarking on a cruise out of San Francisco is always great but the food in San Fran is absolutely amazing! However, with so much going on near the cruise port terminals it’s always a good idea to have a plan on where you want to go. My first time embarking from the San Francisco terminal I was completely unprepared and ended up at a restaurant that only served vegan dishes; I was craving a steak! The vegan dish I ordered ended up being fabulous but it wasn’t steak. I swore from that day forward to always have a plan in mind of the restaurants I wanted to try at every port of call before I stepped foot off of the port. Below are my top recommendations for restaurants close by the cruise terminal that I think are amazing!

Mama’s:  If you are in the mood for breakfast Mama’s serves the best in town! If you’re cruising during Dungeness crab season in San Francisco you have to try Mama’s for their Dungeness crab omelet, it’s to die for. The name fits the restaurant too, the atmosphere is very homey and at least one thing on the menu will remind you of breakfast at mama’s house. If you decide you want to try Mama’s be prepared for a possible wait to be seated. People tend to flock to this location because the food is so amazing and sometimes there can be a long line. Don’t worry the service is still amazing and the staff is accustomed to the high volume. Mama’s is only open for breakfast and lunch from 8:00am until 3:00pm and is located at 1701 Stockton St. in Washington Square.

The Waterfront Restaurant & Café: Looking for scenic beauty while you dine? Look no further, there are amazing views of the Bay Bridge from inside and a covered patio if you like the outdoors feel. What’s really cool is that sometimes you catch a glimpse of the cruise ships arriving or embarking from this location if your timing is right. If you’re looking for seafood the Waterfront will have it. Of course they do offer other items besides seafood but fish of the sea is their specialty.  They are located at Pier 7, which is a perfect spot if you are out for a stroll along the pier anyways!

Pena Pachamama: Okay, I couldn’t leave out the amazing vegan place I had! Even though I usually don’t go for vegan food the experience I had at Pena Pachamama was worth going back. At Pena Pachamama you can expect to be served Bolivian style fresh organic and healthy entrees. What’s even better is you will have the opportunity to enjoy these delicious dishes while you are being entertained. Five evenings a week they offer performances, dancing, and music with a South American flair. It’s seriously so much fun and I am truly hooked! I have to visit this restaurant every time I am close to the San Francisco area. Pena Pachamama is located at 1630 Powell Street not far from Coit tower.  If you arrive the day before embarkation I would recommend reserving a table to see one of their shows!
