Smart Tips and Tricks When Cruising with Kids

  1. Download Movies onto your tablet before you leave home: Even though Wi-Fi is available on cruise ships it can cost a pretty penny. Save yourself the extra cash and download some movies for the kids ahead of time. Most likely you will only need a few just to keep them occupied during check in or while they’re getting ready for bed. Don’t forget to bring charges!
  2. Prepare ahead for misplaced items: My kids have a tendency to lose something everywhere we go. One of the techniques I have found that is helpful for retrieving these lost items is writing down my cell number on everything we own! I use tiny stickers on their electronic devices and markers on the inside tags of their clothes and towels. What’s great about providing your cell number is that the person who finds it can just text you!
  3. If you’re taking a vacation while your kids are in school ask the teacher for their missed work ahead of time and have them do it on their downtime or before you even leave on the cruise ship!
  4. Plan your on shore activities in advance. Kids would be happy just sliding down the tube slides and eating soft serve ice cream all day. So if you want to save time on “discussing” the day’s plans–have the tours or plans set up in advance and assure your kids they will have plenty of time to play during days at sea.
  5. Incorporate an interactive education activity into each of your port destinations. Create a checklist of things to look for in each city. Look through the description of the city and create a list based on things you think your family would be interested in. Then make a game of who finds it first.
  6. Bring along some of the basic medicines like pain reliever, something for an upset stomach, sunburn relief and band aids. Cruise ships have medical facilities, but it is still much more convenient to have some basics on hand.
  7. Pack a garbage bag to use for dirty clothes. Last thing you want is to have your dirty clothes mixed in with your clean clothes!
