Day 1

Arrive in Amsterdam, Holland (Embarkation)

Welcome to beautiful Amsterdam, considered Holland’s sophisticated, modern capital. This magnificent 700-year-old city with its elegant and classic architecture, popular cafés, and bustling restaurants creates a ultimate atmosphere. The narrow streets, busy squares, tranquil canals, and network of bike paths throughout the city make for a vibrant atmosphere, and with more than 60 impressive museums, Amsterdam boasts the highest museum density in the world. Perhaps you will choose to join an exciting optional excursion to quaint Zaanse Schans with its traditional houses and fascinating Dutch craft workshops. Day 2 Amsterdam

Experienced travelers will tell you, there is no better way to see Amsterdam than by the classic CANAL BOAT, cruising peacefully through the stunningly elegant grachten lined with stately homes dating back to Amsterdam’s “Golden Age.” This afternoon, you’ll enjoy some wonderful free time in this fabulous city so you can explore more in depth on your own. Day 3 Cologne, Germany

This morning, you’ll enjoy some peaceful cruising before arriving at charming Cologne during the afternoon. Cologne, considered one of Germany’s biggest cities and capital of the Rhineland, stretches out on both sides of the picturesque Rhine. It is known for its towering, elegant twin-steepled gothic cathedral. You’ll have the choice between an exciting included GUIDED CITY WALK, or JEWISH HERITAGE WALK. Day 4 Koblenz–Rhine Gorge–Rüdesheim

Two thousand-year-old Koblenz is located at the junction of the beautiful Rhine and Moselle Rivers. It’s considered the rich cultural and business center of the picturesque Middle Rhine region. Here, you’ll have opportunity to join a friendly Local Guide for a fascinating WALKING TOUR of this amazing city that will disclose its eventful past history through its majestic castles, imposing fortress walls, impressive towers, squares, and stately monuments. You’ll marvel as you cruise through the sensational RHINE GORGE, considered the most beautiful stretch of river. Here, ancient castles stand as if on sentry duty on the towering cliffs rising some 400 feet above the waters. Day 5 Mainz. Excursion to Heidelberg

Charming Mainz, strategically located at the junction of the picturesque Rhine and Main Rivers, claims “civilized” origins dating back to around 38 BC. Today, this bustling city has become Germany’s biggest and some say, the most vital wine market. You’ll join your friendly Local Guide for an exciting expertly GUIDED WALK through the Altstadt (Old Town) with its numerous busy shops and the enchanting Fastnachtsbrunnen (Carnival Fountain) on the Schillerplatz, a tribute to the wonderful jesters at the city’s annual Carnival celebration. You’ll learn about Gutenberg, known as the father of modern printing. He was born here – and you’ll visit the controversial GUTENBERG MUSEUM. After lunch, travel to Heidelberg, home to the oldest university in Germany. With a friendly and knowledgeable LOCAL GUIDE, you’ll enjoy a visit to imposing ruins of historic HEIDELBERG CASTLE, which towers splendidly over the city and is considered among the most important Renaissance structures north of the stunning Alps. On your exciting GUIDED SIGHTSEEING TOUR, you’ll visit the sensational red-sandstone GOTHIC CATHEDRAL with its fascinating ancient murals, beautiful stained-glass windows, and fascinating astronomical clock. Located at the foot of Kaiserstuhl Mountain on the French-German border, beautiful Breisach is considered the gateway to Germany’s amazing BLACK FOREST region, an area of unparalleled natural beauty with its dense forests of thick pine trees. The Black Forest got its name because the forests are so dense that locals always described them as black. Surely the most well known products associated with this region are popular Black Forest ham, delicious Black Forest cherry cake, and iconic cuckoo clocks. You may decide to join an optional visit to a local woodcarver’s workshop where you see the fascinating clocks he produces along with other carvings, or you might choose a visit to the open-air Museum of Vogtsbauernhof to see how life was lived in this area centuries ago. Day 8 Basel, Switzerland–Zürich–Munich, Germany

This morning, after a wonderful breakfast, you’ll disembark your fabulous Avalon cruise ship and transfer to Zürich for travel by a first-class train to magnificent Munich. You’ll arrive in the afternoon, just in time to join the Globus part of your wonderful vacation. You’ll enjoy a casual welcome dinner at your hotel. (Dinner)

Day 9 Munich–Regensburg

After a wonderful breakfast this morning, you’ll join an expertly guided sightseeing tour of bustling Munich including impressive Marienplatz. Day 10 Regensburg–Nuremberg

Day 13 Black Forest–Lake Constance–Oberammergau Area
