Virgin Voyages’ first adults only cruise ship
At a recent keel-laying ceremony at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Genoa, Italy, CEO Tom McAlpin revealed some details on the design of the cruise line’s first ship. The ship, which is set to debut in 2020, is designed to appeal to travelers with a taste for a more elevated, premium experience. 93 percent of the rooms will offer an ocean view, and 86 percent of the ship’s cabins will feature a sea terrace. The ship will carry 2,800 passengers, making it the largest vessel to embrace the adults’ only cruise market.
Design Details
London-based artist Toby Tinsley designed Virgin Voyages’ logo, which was inspired by figureheads on historic vessels. The logo features a glamorous mermaid trailing a Virgin banner, and will appear on the side of the ship’s bow in line with the bridge. The ship’s livery will incorporate a silver-gray hull, with smoked glass and accents of iconic Virgin-brand red color, including a funnel. The aft below the promenade deck will feature the familiar Virgin logo and font.
Virgin Voyages’ ship is designed to be eco-friendly, with sustainability enhancements that will increase its appeal to Millennials and progressive travelers. The cruise line has entered into partnerships with innovative companies including waste provider Scanship and Sweden-based clean energy company Climeon. The companies will be exploring developing technology, looking for ways to convert waste into energy. If the technology comes through, it could significantly reduce ocean discharge.
