Whether it\u2019s strolling through an enchanting village, taking snap shots, or perhaps a drive through the rolling countryside, this place is ideal. With its picturesque fields and meadows bordered by hedges and even bluebell woods, Normandy speaks romance no matter where you find yourself.<\/p>\n

HONFLEUR<\/a><\/p>\n

Probably one of the most romantic places in France, Honfleur is everything you imagine in a port city here in Normandy. Located on the left bank of the mouth of Seine, this picturesque landing was fortunate enough to escape the ravages of World War II\u2019s massive destruction. What you see in its quaint charm and its unique architecture here goes back centuries and will give you a moment for pause. You will feel the history in the timber-framed houses and slate-grey facades as they reflect in the boat-lined old docks. You may even recognize it from paintings by such artists as Monet, Courbet, Cals, Dubourg, Boudin, Bazille, Corot, Sisley and Jongkind.<\/p>\n

Stop at the many shops here and even make it a full day. Stop in for lunch or dinner at one of the many restaurants on the old dock. Make it a special occasion and search such eateries as Restaurant Le Breard<\/a>, SaQuaNa, Au Bouillon Normand or L Ostrea. All are within walking distance along the docks. Or perhaps you can find one of your own and make it that special place you will never forget.<\/p>\n

LISIEUX<\/a><\/p>\n

South of Honfleur in the heart of the Auge region is the town of Lisieux. Take the scenic drive here and take in the story book countryside.\u00a0 Enter this historic and unforgettable town with its timber-framed houses and amazing 12th<\/sup>-century cathedral that has drawn visitors for centuries, known as Saint Peter’s Cathedral.\u00a0 This enchanting place of worship is of great interest architecturally and historically. It is also a superb example of Northern gothic art, reminding us that Lisieux was a cathedral town up until 1790.<\/p>\n

It was also here where Saint Theresa had the revelation. Also don\u2019t forget to stop and visit the chapel of Carmel where Saint Theresa is buried.<\/p>\n

Lisieux is the capital of the Pays d\u2019Auge. It resides in one of the most charming places in Normandy. A trip here is ideally perfect for a romantic afternoon as its history and friendly residents will make you feel you belong. Relax and get photos at the Bishopric Garden, which is a short walk from the St. Pierre Cathedral. Created in the 19th<\/sup> century it is a beautiful rest stop with annual flowers, circular pond with a sparkling fountain and lined by rows of trees and a bandstand.<\/p>\n

LE MONT SAINT-MICHEL<\/a><\/p>\n

Located in lower Normandy, Mont Saint-Michel<\/a> is an island commune that screams beauty. It is located less than a mile off the country\u2019s northwestern coast at the mouth of the Couesnon River near Avranches.<\/p>\n

The unique island has held strategic fortifications since ancient times and has been the seat of the monastery since the eighth century AD. What appears only as a monastery from a distance is an actual village with a population of approximately 44. Being only less than a mile from the coast made it readily accessible on low tide to the many pilgrims that came to the abbey. Then, of course, with the incoming high tide, which is roughly 46 feet, Mont Saint-Michel was secluded and stranded would-be assailants \u2013 and would even drown them. Today no drowning or being stranded here is a concern. The island village is now accessible by a new bridge, now open to the public.<\/p>\n
