The weather, the food, the people, and the sheer beauty of this city is beyond exquisite. I suppose I could be a little biased considering I lived in San Diego for over a decade. But, that brings me to the good news. If you’re looking for things to do near the San Diego cruise port we’ve got you covered!

Fishing

Fishing is abundant in San Diego. For those who enjoy the sport you can choose from salt or fresh water fishing but I have to admit, I favor salt water fishing!

<picture data-avif-picture="1"></picture>
Photo Courtesy of San Diego H&M Landing

I love the idea of catching something out of the ocean. San Diego H&M Landing is perfect if you crave that adventure. H&M specializes in salt water fishing off the coast of San Diego and offer plenty of charters throughout the day. If you’re not quite sure about fishing you can join them on one of their whale watching tours, which has now been added to my bucket list as soon as I get a chance to return to this beautiful city!

If freshwater fishing is more your style, I suggest El Capitan. This lake isn’t as populated as most of the lakes in San Diego and for largemouth bass it’s the place to go. El Capitan offers rentals and is approximately thirty minutes away from the San Diego Cruise terminal.

Surfing

It’s never too late or too early to learn how to surf! San Diego offers some of the best surfing schools and surfing locations for the beginner or the seasoned surfer.

<picture data-avif-picture="1"></picture>
Surfing

For those new to surfing San Diego has plenty of shore breaks; offering sandy areas with no reef or rock, and smaller swells. I recommend Pacific Surf School for lessons. They offer private and group lessons and are located close to the San Diego port terminal. They have fantastic reviews and ensure that you have a great time!

For those who are a little less inclined to get the lessons but still want to enjoy a water sport head on down to La Jolla Shores. It’s the first beach I ever surfed at and where several local first-timers go. There are plenty of places around the area to rent a surf board, or other ocean water devices, and the swimming is perfect.

For advanced surfers San Diego has the famous Blacks Beach. Be prepared for a hike when you go to Blacks Beach, the terrain is a challenge all of its own! The surfing here is phenomenal and the area is relatively quiet.

The Whaley House

The Whaley House is considered by many the most haunted house in America. I’ve been several times and I haven’t seen a ghost, but the history and beauty around it has pulled me in time after time. The tours of the home are fascinating and if you do happen to encounter something a little out of the ordinary let me know!

<picture data-avif-picture="1"></picture>
The Whaley House. Old Town San Diego is rich with local history. They offer events and live shows frequently. I recommended taking the trolley and enjoying the beautiful scenery along the way.

Balboa Park

Balboa Park features several gardens, museums, and attractions. There are 15 museums, several gardens, walking trails, art exhibits, performing arts shows, a mini train, and even a carousel. Balboa Park is truly a one stop shop for all of your entertainment needs.

<picture data-avif-picture="1"></picture>
Balboa Park

You can’t visit San Diego without trying a California Burrito, San Diego style! Carl’s Jr. caught onto this recently and added the San Diego Burrito to their menu. Let me tell you, it is not the same, not even close! San Diego natives refer to it as a California Burrito but it’s an exclusive San Diego thing, from what I can tell. Trust me, the San Diego version of the California Burrito is in a class all of its own. Usually you can’t go wrong, regardless of where you order it, but my personal favorite place is Roberto’s. In San Diego you will find a Roberto’s around almost every corner. Inside the San Diego style California Burrito you will find, Carne Asada, potatoes, guacamole, Pico de Gallo, cheeses, and sour cream. It sounds simple but it’s a master piece when done correctly!

CruiseExperts.com would like you to tell us about your favorite cruise port!
