The Ocean Medallion technology of Princess Cruise Lines will use the data provided to design new cruise ships in the future. New designs mean more comfortable accommodations, easier guest navigation throughout the ship, and better overall service for everyone.<\/p>\n

Uses for Technology in Princess Line’s New Cruise Ships<\/h3>\n

Technology monitors the movement of passengers onboard and identifies areas with pinch points and bottlenecks. This data allows Princess the opportunity to design a perfect ship in terms of passenger flow.<\/p>\n

Tony Roberts Vice President UK & Europe for Princess Cruises explained the data received through the Ocean data allows for understanding passenger flows and dwell times in the same areas of the ship.<\/p>\n

This provides opportunities for presenting guests with suggestions for activities in the immediate area as well as making it easier for them to navigate their way around the ship to dining, activity, and entertainment areas. Technology will provide new cruise ships to be designed with optimized onboard space.<\/p>\n

Royal Caribbean’s New Cruise Ships Use Monitoring Technology<\/h3>\n

Exciting new technology allows Royal Caribbean to use a new passenger monitoring system that speeds up the passenger embarkation process. The data received helps design the perfect terminal.<\/p>\n

Royal Caribbean is presently using the MFlow passenger tracking system to speed up the Barcelona, Spain embarkation process. This system allows Royal Caribbean to see how long it takes a person to get from one point to another.<\/p>\n

Adam Sharp, Head of Business Development EMEA at Royal Caribbean explained that the system allows them to know with some certainty it takes “a suite guest two minutes to check-in, a general guest eight minutes to pass through.”<\/p>\n

If those thresholds are interrupted we can advise the proper people and departments to make adjustments. This technology results in a smarter terminal, happier guests, and both time and space-saving. It also saves substantial savings when there is a reduction in square footage. Sharp explained that the goal was to have guests get “from car to bar” within 10 minutes of arrival, with a further goal of reducing this time to as little as eight minutes.<\/p>\n

Royal Caribbean will do a trial run of the technology at Fort Lauderdale before rolling it out to the other ports owned by Royal Caribbean.<\/p>\n
