Sail the waters of the Danube River starting from the Danube Delta of the Black Sea to Hungary’s lively capital of Budapest form the chance to experience European culture and scenic river views like you never have before. Start your 11 day Avalon river cruise from Bucharest to Budapest 2020 journey with an overnight stay in the bustling and energetic city of Bucharest where you will have the chance to enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of Bucharest’s lovely Royal Palace Square—the scene of Ceausescu’s historic riots overthrow in 1989—along with the compelling Arc de Triomphe.

Journey to Fetesti to officially begin your Danube River cruise. You will get the chance to see firsthand some of those most astounding panoramic views that this vacation has to offer, beginning with the Danube Delta at the Black Sea for a guided tour by way of small-boat that will sail you through some of the 2,200 square miles of delta preserve. Celebrate with us as we mark Kilometer “0,” the spot that marks the Danube’s incredible finale of 2,845 kilometers that begins in the Black Forest and concludes at the Black Sea. You cruise on the Danube River will take you through the enchanting landscapes of the famous Balkans. Enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of Rousse in Bulgaria’s largest inland port. This excursion will include a visit to the Holy Trinity Church. You might opt for a full day led by a tour guide as you experience the Bulgarian capital of Veliko Târnovo, where ancient stone houses still stand lined against the rocks of the Yantra River cliffs. Visit one of the oldest towns that Bulgaria boasts—Arbanassi—which is home to Bulgarian Revival Architecture within its 15th-century locale.

Guided sightseeing will be available for you in Vidin, followed by an additional guided tour of the incredible Belogradchik, which boasts its ancient fortress and towering rock formations on the Balkan Mountains. Following, stop to visit Lepenski Vir to enjoy a guided tour with ancient archeological finds prior to sailing through the incredible narrow of the Iron Gates Gorge. In Serbia, go for a guided tour of the incredible Belgrade, which will include a stop at one of the world’s largest Orthodox churches, and experience the sight of the most well-preserved Croatian fortresses in the town of Osijek. You’ll also have the chance to join the audience of an enchanting performance by some of the young local students of the Franjo Kuhač school of music. Take a Guided Tour of the Romanian capital city of Bucharest with its tree-lined boulevards and Arc de Triomphe—honoring WWI Romanian soldiers. See the Royal Palace Square—the scene of the city’s 1989 riots to overthrow the communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu.

Sail to Sistov

Join a full-day Guided Tour to the former Bulgarian capital of Veliko Târnovo—with its ancient stone houses clinging to the cliffs above the Yantra River. Discover one of the oldest towns in Bulgaria (circa 4300 BC), as well as the Bulgarian Revival architecture in the 15th-century town of Arbanassi. Later, join your ship in Svistov.

After dinner, you’ll enjoy live entertainment on board with a Bulgarian folklore show.

Day 6 Vidin, Bulgaria. Excursion to Belogradchik

History and Culture of Croatia

Attend a musical concert performed by the talented young artists of the music school of Osijek at Franjo Kuhac.
