Day 1 Arrive in Bucharest, Romania
Welcome to bustling Bucharest, Romania! You can enjoy the remainder of your day by getting a head start exploring some of the treasures this amazing Romanian city has to offer.
You’ll discover that so much recent history has taken place in beautiful Romania’s capital city. You’ll marvel at its wonderful wide, tree-lined avenues and don’t miss the iconic Arc de Triomphe – constructed in 1922 to honor the heroic bravery of all the Romanian soldiers who fought and died for their country during WWI – have gained Bucharest the title of, “Paris of the East.” This morning, you’ll enjoy your INCLUDED TOUR as a friendly guide shows you all the must-see sights including impressive Royal Palace Square, the scene of horrific riots in 1989, which led to the eventual collapse of the oppressive communist dictatorship. Later in the day, a relaxing motor coach ride takes you to quaint Fetesti, where your luxurious Avalon river cruise ship is docked, awaiting your arrival. Day 3 St. Gheorghe. Danube Delta Excursion
This morning during a wonderful breakfast, your luxurious Avalon river cruise ship will dock in charming St. Gheorghe, from where the exciting excursion into the beautiful DELTA will begin. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the best preserved of Europe’s deltas, this fabulous area is home to more than 300 species of birds as well as 45 species of fascinating freshwater fish. The beautiful Blue Danube River is 2,845 kilometers long from its source in the Black Forest to its delta at the fabulous Black Sea. You’ll see the Km markings clearly as you cruise along the length of the river. You’ll depart charming St. Gheorghe while you enjoy a wonderful lunch and a small CELEBRATION to mark Km “0” – the end of your fantastic Danube’s journey. Day 4 Cernavoda. Excursion to Constanta
Welcome to charming Cernavoda this morning, where you’ll join an exciting excursion, which takes you to bustling Constanta, the most crucial economic commercial center in all of Romania. This vibrant city is situated on the fabulous Black Sea. A friendly CERTIFIED LOCAL GUIDE will show you all the must-see sights this city has to offer, which includes a tour of the impressive NATURAL HISTORY & ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM. Day 5 Rousse, Bulgaria. Excursion to Veliko Târnovo & Arbanassi–Svistov
This morning you’ll dock in charming Rousse, considered Bulgaria’s largest inland port. Then, a relaxing motor coach ride away you’ll be in the beautiful ancient Bulgarian capital city of Veliko Târnovo. Located on three picturesque hills surrounding the fabulous Yantra River, the bustling city created a natural fortress with amazing stone houses dotting the steep slopes. The oldest part is known as Tsarevets Hill, home of the fantastic ROYAL FORTRESS, and the elegant Patriarch’s Church. With your popular Local Guide, you’ll discover this town that historians say, played an vital part in Bulgaria’s history. Then, you’ll journey to quaint Arbanassi. Founded in the 15th century, the historic village of Arbanassi is best known for its examples of Bulgarian Revival architecture and its impressive ETHNOGRAPHICAL MUSEUM, a 400-year-old house that was preserved and turned into a wonderful museum. You’ll visit the stunning CHURCH OF THE NATIVITY, one of the oldest churches in Arbanassi, and marvel at its amazing collection of frescoes. Its fascinating medieval FORTRESS, Baba Vidin, is the village’s primary landmark. It served as Vidin’s primary defensive installation during the horrific Middle Ages and represents the only medieval fortress entirely preserved in the entire country. Now, this once protective installation has been turned into a fortress museum and has been wonderfully restored to its previous appearance. In nearby Belogradchik, you’ll be able to view the diverse group of unusual ROCK FORMATIONS located on the western slopes of the majestic Balkan Mountains. Day 7 Iron Gates. Excursion to Lepenski Vir, Serbia
Today you’ll see some of the most sensational scenery beauty as you sail through the stunning gorge of the IRON GATES, an extremely narrow and at one time, very dangerous passage dividing majestic Europe’s Alps in the northwest from the beautiful Carpathians in the southeast, which form a natural border between the nations of Serbia and Romania. Day 9 Mohács, Hungary. Excursion to Pécs

Established by the ancient Romans in the 2nd century; according to history, this city was a flourishing and critical town for Christianity by the 4th century. These early Christians were responsible for many underground burial chambers, while their memorial chapels are above ground.
