River Cruise Itinerary
Day 1 Prague, Czech Republic
Welcome to Prague, bustling capital of the Czech Republic. Transfer from the airport to your hotel. After checking in for a 2-night stay, enjoy your free time to explore this historic city, or join our exciting “welcome walk,” an opportunity to stretch your legs and get oriented.
Day 2 Prague, Czech Republic
This morning, you’ll tour Prague, also known as the “City of a Hundred Spires.” A guided walk takes you through Old Town to the famed Charles Bridge. Then, travel to Hrad?any for a guided tour inside stately Prague Castle and awe-inspiring St. Vitus Cathedral. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure; when you can see the Town Hall’s intricate 15th-century astronomical clock, spend some time in historic Wenceslas Square or discover Prague’s Jewish heritage in the Josefov Quarter. Day 3 Nuremberg & Bamberg, Germany
Travel to the beautiful Bavarian city of Nuremburg and join a tour that takes you to the ruins of historic Zeppelin Field – the Nazi parade grounds of the 1930s – and the “Palace of Justice,” a stately remnant of the famous Nuremberg Trials. You’ll have a brief stop at the courthouse before returning to Old Town, which is enclosed within ancient city walls. Complete your day with a stroll from the fabulous imperial castle grounds, past the impressive Albrecht Dürer House to the bustling Main Market Square, with its famous Gothic fountain. Continue to Bamberg where you’ll embark on your cruise ship. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 4 Bamberg, Germany
Today enjoy an exciting walking tour of Bamberg’s beautifully preserved Old Town area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Then take time to sample the Bamberg’s famous locally brewed smoky beer, rauchbier. Enjoy a hearty lunch aboard your ship before you depart this afternoon for a relaxing cruise along the beautiful Main River, which winds its way west through the fascinating Franconia region of Germany. Day 5 Würzburg, Germany
Disembark in the scenic village of Würzburg, a Franconian wine town, and tour the extravagant baroque Bishops’ Residenz, a beautiful palace with numerous paintings and frescoes. After lunch aboard, enjoy some free time exploring Würzburg, or join an optional excursion to the imposing walled medieval village of Rothenburg. After returning to your ship, you’ll enjoy dining and then cruise through the night. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 6 Heidelberg, Germany
We sail through the early morning hours, arriving in Wertheim after breakfast. Disembark for a full-day excursion to Heidelberg, an ancient city that is home to Germany’s oldest university founded in 1386. Tour the historic red sandstone ruins of Heidelberg Castle, first built in the 12th century but twice destroyed by lightning and eventually rebuilt. A guided walk through Heidelberg’s Old Town and marketplace is included, as is lunch at one of the quaint local restaurants. You’ll return to your ship at dinnertime, and then enjoy cruising through the night. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 7 Mainz & Rüdesheim, Germany
You arrive in Mainz during breakfast, then disembark and join an informative guided tour of a city that boasts more than 2,000 years of history. Stroll along the picturesque streets of Old Town and visit the fascinating Gutenberg Museum. Founded in 1900, some 500 years after the birth of Johannes Gutenberg, the inventor of the printing press, the museum covers the fascinating history of the printed word. Numerous displays feature illuminating books and fascinating printing technologies, including a replica of Gutenberg’s actual workshop. You’ll return to your ship for lunch and enjoy a scenic afternoon of cruising along the Rhine River. You arrive in the quaint village of Rüdesheim in midafternoon, which leaves you plenty of time to enjoy the local restaurants, bars and charming shops that line Rüdesheim’s Drosselgasse. Or you may choose to join an optional wine-tasting experience. You’ll dine aboard ship and remain docked overnight. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 8 Cochem, Germany
This morning, you’ll enjoy cruising through what is considered the most beautiful stretch of the Rhine. You’ll see extravagant castles standing on both sides of the river. It’s not surprising that this area is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. After lunch aboard your ship, you’ll arrive in the quaint Moselle community of Cochem. It’s time to stretch your legs on a walking tour of the city and visit the massive Reichsburg Castle. You return to your cruise ship before dinnertime and then enjoy smooth sailing through the night. Day 9 Bernkastel & Trier, Germany
After a wonderful breakfast, an optional guided tour through the 700-year-old village of Bernkastel is available, loaded with narrow cobblestone streets lined with half-timbered houses. Return to your cruise ship for lunch and enjoy the pristine scenery as we float along the Moselle River toward Trier. We arrive this afternoon for a tour of Germany’s oldest city. See the wonderfully preserved Roman Porta Nigra, historic Trier Cathedral and the elegant Church of Our Lady. Enjoy dining onboard your cruise ship. We remain docked here tonight so you may wish to take an evening stroll and see more of this fascinating town. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 10 Luxembourg City, Luxembourg
Disembark in historic Trier this morning, then travel to nearby Luxembourg where, at the American Cemetery, you can pay your respects to the thousands of soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the bloody World War II Battle of the Bulge. Explore the beautiful city of Luxembourg on a fascinating guided tour, then take time out for lunch before continuing on to iconic Paris, the “City of Light.” When you arrive in Paris, known as the romantic capital of France, check in to the elegant Le Méridien Étoile (or similar) for a 2-night stay. Your evening is free for you to explore and dine on your own, choosing from some of the most famous restaurants in Europe. (Breakfast)
Day 11 Paris, France
Today’s tour begins with a relaxing drive along the Champs-Élysées, past the historic Arc de Triomphe to the world-famous Louvre. The remainder of the day is yours to experience more of this timeless city: visit a iconic museum, explore bustling Montmartre or take a romantic moonlit cruise along the fabulous Seine River. The banks of the Seine, with their exquisite bridges and unmatched city views, are a classic UNESCO World Heritage Site. (Breakfast)
Day 12 Paris, France
After a wonderful breakfast, check out of your hotel and head to the airport for your return flight home. Or, you might decide to extend your vacation with 2 additional nights in the romantic “City of Light” – Paris. (Breakfast)
