Start your European vacation adventure prior to your cruise with an overnight stay and tours of Bucharest, which will include a look at the enchanting Royal Palace Square and Romanian soldier memorials.

Journey to Fetesti to begin your river cruising portion of this 18 day Avalon river cruise from Bucharest to Nuremberg 2020, starting with the vast Danube Delta preserve. Cruise through the stunning rolling landscapes of the Balkans—Rousse, Bulgaria, Veliko Târnovo, and Arbanassi, one of the most historic towns in the marvelous country of Bulgaria.

Guided tours in Vidin will be followed by another included tour of Belogradchik, with its striking ancient fortress and gigantic rock formations that reside on the Balkan Mountains. After sailing through the waters that line the narrow Iron Gates Gorge, experience Lepenski Vir for a guided tour that shows you many of the local ancient archaeological finds. In Serbia, participate in a guided tour of Belgrade, which will show you one of the world’s largest Orthodox churches, and get a look at the most well-preserved Croatian fortress in Osijek. You’ll also get the chance to join the audience of an amazing performance put on by the young students of the Franjo Kuhač music school.

As you continue on your European river cruise, you will get to tour through the historic town of Pécs prior to enjoying additional sightseeing in the Hungarian capital of Budapest—known as the “Pearl of the Danube.” Delight in more guided sightseeing through Vienna’s historic Habsburg Empire—including the stunning Imperial Palace, Vienna Opera House, and soaring St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Day 2 Bucharest–Oltenita (Embarkation)
