Connect with your Avalon Suite Ship® in the energetic city of Budapest after you begin your 16 day Avalon river cruise from Budapest to Basel 2020 by spending two nights in this “Pearl of the Danube.” You will begin your Danube river cruise on your Avalon Waterways river cruise ship as you sail to your first stop of Vienna, and then continue on to Germany to the city of Passau, following with a stop in the stunning Bavarian city of Regensburg where you will experience historic sites such as the Old Town hall from the 12th century.

Your thrilling German leg of this vacation will continue as you sail towards the city of Nuremberg, where you will be able to have your pick of from two guided explorations—city sightseeing with an expert guide (classic), or a guided tour experience of iconic Rally Grounds of Nuremberg.

Your unforgettable scenic European river cruise to Nuremberg will continue on to Munich, where you will join a full day excursion of this area. Cruise to your next port in Frankfurt where you will enjoy your pick of two included guided tours. From there, go on to Rüdesheim and then on to sail through the glittering waters of the glorious Rhine Gorge.

Day one of your 16 day Avalon river cruise from Budapest to Basel vacation starts now. Take advantage of this day to unwind and explore this glistening city on the Danube as you begin your Eastern European vacation. Flights into Budapest must arrive by 2 pm. Guests must be on board ship by 5 pm.


Day 2 Vienna, Austria

Vienna Waltzes and the Beautiful Blue Danube

Start the day with a Morning Stretch with your Avalon Adventure Host. Enjoy sailing the Danube, which shares dozens of miles with Hungary and Slovakia. Relax on the Sky Deck to see the rolling landscape and red-rooftops of the Slovakian capital of Bratislava come into view. This evening in Vienna, you may choose to join an Optional Excursion to attend a Royal Waltz Concert for an unforgettable evening of music in an elegant hall..

Day 3 Vienna

Venture into the Habsburg empire this morning on a Guided City Tour of Vienna’s gilded landmarks. See the Imperial Palace complex—the winter residence of the Imperial Family, the historic Vienna Opera House and stunning St. Stephen’s Cathedral.

You might enjoy a Guided Optional Excursion to Schönbrunn Palace—a Habsburg Empire summer home for 300 years. In the afternoon, consider taking a tram to visit Austria’s Prater amusement park or one of the many museums nearby. Or, borrow a bike from the ship to explore the streets and squares of Vienna, or ride along the banks of the Danube at your leisure. In the evening, you’ll be treated to live entertainment as you sail to Dürnstein.
