Start your incredible 2019 22 Day Avalon River Cruise from Côte d’Azur to Rome journey through the incredible country of France with 3 nights in Venice and 3 nights in Rome, beginning with an overnight stay in the magnificent Côte d’Azur. You will travel to the city of Arles where you will board your Avalon Suite Ship® and embark on the first leg of your incredibly scenic river cruise adventure through France. You will cruise to the charming area of Lyon, where you will delight in a city sightseeing tour led by an expert guide. You will continue on to the city of Dijon where you will join a high-speed train ride to your next city of Paris—famed as the romantic “City of Lights,” where you will begin your thrilling river cruise journey on the Seine river.

Visit the home of the genius artist Claude Monet and take a walk through his charming and gorgeous gardens and elegant residence at Giverny. Cruise on the waters of the Seine to Caudebec, and join in an exploration to the historic city of Normandy. Here, you will have your choice between two guided tours throughout Normandy’s beaches and historic WWII monuments, or take this day at your leisure to experience the magnificent agricultural region of Normandy. Day 1 Arrive in Côte d’Azur, France

Take advantage of your free time during this day to begin to immerse yourself in French culture starting with a visit to the Côte d’Azur—which boasts its charming line of yachts, elegant villas, and iconic events. Also named as the French Riviera, the phenomenal Côte d’Azur spans across the Mediterranean coast of France from the city of Toulon all the way to the border of Italy.

Day 2 Côte d’Azur–Transfer to Arles (Embarkation)

Following your breakfast this morning, you will join a serene and scenic drive to the city of Arles where you will meet up with and board your Avalon Suite Ship® and make preparations to embark on the European river ways part of your thrilling journey. Prior to joining us for a welcome reception dinner on board the ship for all river cruise guests, we will sail you through the mouth of the Rhône river for your first look at some of the charming villas and tranquil scenery in Camargue Nation Park that will surround you on your sailing adventure.

Day 3 Arles

Inspiring Sights and Avant-Garde Lights.

CLASSIC Delight in a Walking Tour of the city of Arles led by an expert local tour guide who will take you on an unforgettable first experience of this intriguing and beautiful city of the Provence region of France. You will stop and get an experience of the Roman Amphitheater in this visually stimulating and picturesque city that was the source of inspiration to the world-famous artist Vincent van Gogh and many of his renowned works.

This afternoon, you may opt to take part in a Guided Optional Tour of the renowned wine cellars of Châteauneuf-du-Pape for a delicious wine tasting of native French wines and a true experience of the Rhône wine region, along with the opportunity to create your own unique wine blend tailored to your taste buds, or you may choose to join a Guided Optional Excursion across the waters of Pont du Gard—the tallest of all elevated Roman aqueducts.

You may opt to spend your down time exploring Avignon—famed as the heart of Provence.
