Day 1 Arrive in Côte d’Azur, France

Day 2 Côte d’Azur–Transfer to Arles (Embarkation)

Today brings an abundance of options to enjoy during the second day of your Avalon river cruise vacation. Relish in a relaxing morning as you explore Côte d’Azur further, or take part in an optional excursion to a nearby area such as Nice. Nice is famous for its lively Promenade des Anglais – the walkway of the English. Here you will find countless hotels and shops along with pristine beaches.

For those who choose to stay in Côte d’Azur, you will transfer in the early afternoon to Arles via motor coach to board your river cruise vessel. Day 9 Chalon–sur–Saône (Disembarkation)–Beaune–Dijon–Paris (Embarkation)

Often referred to as this region’s wine capital, Beaune is a picturesque town between Geneva and Paris that is enclosed by some of the area’s leading wine villages in the world. Day 10 Strasbourg, France

Day 11 Heidelberg, Germany Excursion

Once lunch concludes, you will experience a historical excursion to Heidelberg located on the Neckar River. Home to Germany’s oldest university built in 1386, this historical town also houses the stunning red-sandstone Heidelberg Castle and its impressive ruins – considered to be one of the most vital Renaissance structures north of the Alps. Be sure to bring your camera handy for this excursion as scenery and historical sites abound.

Next, it is time to head over for a fun and quirky visit to the Great Vat. Here you will set your sights on the largest wine barrel in the world, with the ability to hold almost 60,000 gallons of wine. Measuring 23 feet in height and 28 feet in width, this incredible structure even has a dance floor built into the top of it!

Day 12 Mainz – Rüdesheim

While you are here, join a local guide for an educational trip through the Altstadt – or the Old Town. Here you will find countless shops, vendors and the notable Carnival Fountain. After that, your guide will take you to the renowned Gutenberg Museum.

After lunch concludes, you will have time to enjoy a relaxing cruise to Rüdesheim. While here, two exciting excursions are yours to choose from. First, embark on a guided city walk where you will see an abundance of distinctive architecture, picturesque landscapes and historical areas. Alternatively, you can join the Jewish Heritage Walk excursion. Here you will learn more about Cologne’s rich Jewish history, how the Holocaust affected the community and how it was rebuilt.

Day 15 Amsterdam, Holland

Today you will explore this enchanting 700-year-old city via the preferred mode to see its historic landmarks – via Canal Boat. Your canal boat cruise will take you through the region’s Grachtengorgel. Also known as the “Amsterdam Canal District,” the Grachtengorgel showcases remarkable architecture, houses and other structures crafted during the Dutch Golden Age.

Day 16 Amsterdam – Paris, France

Day 17 Paris

This is sure to be a magical day as you explore Paris via a guided sightseeing tour this morning.

First you will travel to the famed Notre Dame Cathedral, a medieval Catholic Cathedral famous for its French Gothic styling, stained glass, sculptures, multitude of bells, and organ. Learn countless historical facts while in the Cathedral such as Napoleon being crowned emperor in 1804.

During your time of exploration in this energetic city, you will pass the legendary Arc de Triomphe and scope out a variety of stunning bridges as you pass the Seine River. One of the top visitor’s sightseeing requests is strolling around The Avenue des Champs-Elysées. Known for being one of the most recognizable and toured avenues in the world, Champs-Elysées is filled with grand buildings, gardens, fountains, luxury shops, cafes, cinemas and more.

Your time in Paris today would not be complete without seeing the Eiffel Tower up close and strolling around The Louvre. Known for its cafe culture, world-famous fashion boutiques and renowned art centers and collections, there is no shortage of incredible spots to discover in this amazing city! (Breakfast)

Day 19 Paris – London, England

Today you will experience another exciting adventure via a high-speed Eurostar train which will transport you to London, England. (Breakfast)

Day 20 London

With a multitude of top sights to see on today’s included morning sightseeing tour, be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring your camera! Prepare to be transported to Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Piccadilly Circus and famed Downing Street.

London is the vibrant capital and most populated city in the region. It is known as a leading area in the arts, healthcare, fashion, entertainment, media and finance. During today’s sightseeing excursion, you will visit St. Paul’s Cathedral (not open on Sundays), constructed in breathtaking English Baroque styling and considered to be one of London’s most famous sights.

Other renowned landmarks you will travel to today include London’s eye, a.k.a. the enormous ferris wheel on the south bank of the River Thames, and The Shard, known as the tallest building in Western Europe.
