This afternoon, you’ll board your luxurious Avalon river cruise ship and meet your friendly captain and crew at a casual evening welcome reception on your European river cruise. Day 2 Budapest
On your 8 day Avalon river cruise from Budapest to Deggendorf 2018, you’ll see beautiful Budapest, spanning the banks of the picturesque blue Danube River, is considered one of Eastern Europe’s most vibrant cities. It doesn’t matter whether you’re just sightseeing, seriously shopping for handcrafted embroidery or Herend porcelain, or merely reveling in the popular coffeehouse culture while enjoying a wonderfully rich cream cake in the world-renowned Gerbeaud Café; Budapest’s ultimate atmosphere is positively appetizing. The two nations share the Danube for 58-miles, with the actual border located in the middle of the river. At the lush green foothills of the majestic Carpathian Mountains is charming Bratislava, the vibrant capital city of Slovakia, which you’ll reach in mid-morning. You’ll have opportunity to join a knowledgeable LOCAL GUIDE to explore its historic Old Town, where winding narrow cobblestone streets and alleyways twist and turn to eventually reveal the Town Hall, which is one of the oldest stone buildings in the city; and stunning gothic ST. At one time Vienna was considered the center of the mighty Habsburg Empire. Austria’s enchanting capital city on the beautiful blue Danube is an excellent example of impressive gilded architecture. The main street of this quaint little town – with a population of less than 1,000 people – is lined with amazing 16th-century homes and fascinating cobblestone streets. This morning, a popular Local Guide will take you on an exciting included WALKING TOUR and share some wonderful tales of England’s King Richard the Lionheart, who was once imprisoned in the castle whose ruins still stand high above the village. During a wonderful lunchtime, you’ll cruise through the sensational Wachau Valley and arrive in charming Melk in early afternoon. Linz was a home to famous composer Anton Bruckner, and Mozart’s well-known Linzer Symphony was composed in the city.
