Your European river cruise continues on the tranquil Moselle River to the lovely town of Cochem where local farmers grow the world-famous Riesling grapes. You’ll tour majestic Reichsburg Castle, tucked snugly amongst the lush green grape vineyards, and providing some of the most breathtaking views of this fascinating village and picturesque river valley below. You’ll cruise into the beautiful Rhine River and into the ultimate Rhine valley town of Rüdesheim. Here you’ll enjoy a fantastic tour of the astonishing Mechanical Musical Instruments Museum, and then marvel as you take a relaxing walk through the town’s world-famous cobblestone Drosselgasse lined with charming shops, popular restaurants, and bustling taverns.
You’ll enjoy the cruise through the sensational Rhine Gorge – considered by veteran travelers as the most beautiful stretch of the Rhine River. River Cruise Itinerary
Day 1 Remich, Luxembourg (Embarkation)-Grevenmacher
Welcome to Luxembourg! Your river cruise vessel will be waiting for you. The day is yours to explore Remich—the Pearl of the Moselle—with panoramic views of surrounding forests and vineyards. Enjoy dinner on board and an evening cruise to Grevenmacher.(Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 2 Grevenmacher. Excursion to Luxembourg City
Due to its accessible location, Luxembourg City has historically been a place of strategic military significance; the first fortifications were built as early as the 10th century. The city center occupies a charming area, perched high on sharp cliffs that drop into the narrow valleys of the Alzette and Pétrusse Rivers. Your guide will familiarize you with this city whose layout is complex, as it sits on two levels, straddling hills and dropping into the two river valleys. You can enjoy a quiet afternoon of cruising or opt to go on an optional excursion to the Roman city of Trier. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 3 Bernkastel
Today you will enjoy the splendor of Bernkastel, the middle of the Moselle region. It’s known for its narrow and winding roads, crooked and timber-framed houses, and renaissance-style town hall. This quaint little area of Bernkastel has stood since the Middle Ages, and is known for its gorgeous marketplace and ‘pointed houses’ that date back to 1416. This is where you will find Germany’s largest vineyard and is widely looked after by wine growers, and is one of the most celebrated areas, Bernkasteler Doktor (winery). Before dinner and heading back to the vessel, have a few samples of the region’s most sensational wines at the Wine Museum. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 4 Cochem
Your next stop will be Cochem, a quaint little town with a story-book feel to go with the half-timbered house and gothic-style architecture. This little town will come to life as you experience historical stories and hotspots on the provided guided tour. Cochem is known for its wine trade, and is the home of the fruity flavored Riesling grape. Feast your eyes on the Reichsburg Castle that was built in 1000 AD. As you peruse the grounds, you will be mesmerized by the renaissance-style décor and the castles many evocative structures and sweeping windows. This picturesque castle sits atop the large cone-shaped hill that overlooks a breathtaking vineyard and a spectacular view of the town. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 5 Rudesheim-Rhine Gorge
This morning, arrive in beautiful Rüdesheim, the perfect quaint Rhine Valley wine town, and visit Siegfried’s Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum—a real treat! Here you’ll see and hear a large collection of self-playing calliopes and music boxes from the 18th to the early 20th centuries. You’ll have time to enjoy a light snack, and then have free time to pick up some souvenirs on the narrow, cobblestone Drosselgasse, where colorful flowers, open-air wine gardens, and live music add to the festive atmosphere. Later, cruise through the breathtaking Rhine Gorge, the most beautiful stretch of river. Here, ancient castles stand sentry on lofty cliffs rising 400 feet above the waters. You’ll cruise past the legendary Lorelei rock, where echoes of enchanted siren song lured unwitting sailors to their doom. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 6 Cologne
Cologne straddles the Rhine and is known for its soaring, twin-steepled gothic cathedral. It is one of Germany’s largest cities and the capital of the Rhineland. You’ll have the opportunity to choose between a guided city walk or a Jewish heritage walk. Later you’ll have free time tp possibly check out the Romano-Germanic Museum, home to a large collection of artifacts from the Roman settlement on which modern Cologne is built—which we highly recommend for history buffs! The Old Town is filled with cafés, shops, and taverns. You might want to try a Kölsch pale lager, locally brewed in Cologne for over a hundred years, or purchase a bottle of “4711,” the original eau de cologne. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 7 Amsterdam, Holland
As your 10 cruise comes to an end, you will get to experience one last incredible stop, Amsterdam, the ‘Dutch Capitol’, and Hollands 700 year old historic city with its elegant and sophisticated style, narrow houses, and elaborate canals. Among the local markets, busy cafes and restaurants, you will find Amsterdam’s high-end shops such as Maison de Bonneterie and De Bijenkorf. Grab an exciting canal boat ride through the grachten that is lined with neo-style houses that date back to Amsterdam’s ‘Golden Age’. While you relax on your last full day here, grab a coffee at a local café or take advantage of one the optional excursions that are offered.
