Day 1 Budapest, Hungary

Welcome to beautiful Budapest, capital of Hungary. You’ll transfer from the airport to your cruise ship.* After boarding your ship, the afternoon is yours to relax from your long flight, or you can get some exercise and explore this marvelous city. If your arrival schedule permits, join an exciting organized walk to Budapest’s famous bustling covered market in the impressive three-story Great Market Hall established in 1897. You’ll return to your ship for a relaxing traditional Hungarian dinner. (Dinner)

Day 2 Budapest, Hungary

After a wonderful breakfast, your morning activities begin with a fabulous panoramic tour of the Pest side of the city. You’ll journey along impressive Andrássy Avenue and see the elegant 19th- and 20th-century mansions, fascinating National Opera House, stately Parliament Building and the majestic Chain Bridge. Take some special time when you visit bustling Heroes’ Square to learn more about Hungarian history, then cross the Danube to Buda’s majestic Castle District. Walk up the hill to Fishermen’s Bastion and magnificent Matthias Church; enjoy breathtaking views of the city below. You’ll rejoin your ship in beautiful Visegrád for a great lunch as we cruise along the awesome Danube River. Enjoy a midafternoon Viennese coffee workshop, complete with delicious apple strudel. Day 3 Vienna, Austria

Today we tour the Austrian capital of Vienna, the “City of Music.” Ride along the fascinating Ringstrasse, which replaced the city walls in the mid-19th century. You’ll marvel at some of the city’s baroque architecture, including the world-famous Opera House, the elegant St. Stephan’s Cathedral and majestic Hofburg Palace. You return to your ship for a great lunch. The rest of the day is yours to further explore this marvelous city. As always, your Program Director can share suggestions that will help you make the most of your free time. Or you may choose to take an optional tour to impressive Schönbrunn Palace, the “Versailles of Vienna,” erected in 1778 and surrounded by a number of formal gardens, fine Grecian statuary, the world’s oldest zoo and ancient Roman ruins. You can enjoy a relaxing dinner, or an optional classical concert, a fitting event to end the day in the “City of Music.” (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 4 Krems, Austria

After a wonderful breakfast, explore the long-established town of Krems and see the elegant Steiner Tor, the last remaining city gate. Visit fascinating Göttweig, a working Benedictine abbey that owns and farms many of the vineyards along the Danube. The magnificent ceiling fresco in the imperial stairwell is considered one of the largest in the world. Visit the church, which is a masterpiece of baroque architecture. You’ll rejoin your ship and continue cruising leisurely through the sensational Wachau Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take time to taste some local Austrian specialties as you discover these quaint riverside towns and ancient castle ruins along this scenic waterway. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 5 Passau, Germany

You arrive this morning in beautiful Passau, at the junction of the Inn, Ilz and Danube Rivers. Your guided walk through the town’s narrow streets takes you to Old Town and past traditional patrician houses. You’ll see the elegant New Bishop’s Residence and visit the awe-inspiring baroque St. Stephen’s Cathedral with its beautiful interior. Inside the cathedral, you are treated to a special concert played on the 17,774-pipe organ, considered Europe’s largest church organ.† Enjoy a great lunch aboard your ship, and then return to the city for further exploration on your own before departing for a wonderful night of cruising. Day 6 Regensburg, Germany

After a wonderful breakfast, your visit to the scenic town of Regensburg begins when you meet your guide dockside for a walking tour through what is considered one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval cities. You’ll observe one of the largest groupings north of the Alps of elegant 13th- and 14th-century church spires, towers and charming patrician houses. You also will marvel at the 12th-century Old Stone Bridge, elegant St. Peter’s Cathedral and a number of picturesque courtyards. Take time to walk the streets of the city to see the sights, or take this opportunity to do some serious shopping. Or you may choose to visit Germany’s oldest restaurant, the quaint Alte Würstküche. You’ll also enjoy lunch served aboard your ship.

Day 7 Main–Danube Canal & Nuremberg, Germany

Very early this morning, we sail through the fascinating locks that comprise the Main-Danube Canal, an engineering marvel that travels 106 miles from bustling Bamberg on the Main River to charming Kelheim on the Danube. It began as Charlemagne’s dream in 793 and was completed in 1992 with 16 locks that raise the water level an amazing 1,332 feet. Today, it enables river travel from the North Sea to the Black Sea.

Day 8 Nuremberg, Germany

After a wonderful breakfast, disembark and ride to the airport for your return flight home.* Or, you may choose to extend your journey with 3 exciting nights in Prague, Czech Republic, giving yourself more time to visit the must-see sights you may have missed, including a tour of Old Town and majestic Prague Castle.
