Sydney’s Exciting Hot Spots on your Cruise

Australia is by far one of my favorite places to travel! Just remember to bring a hat and sunscreen because the sun in Australia is intense. Best known for its picturesque Opera House and Harbour Bridge, Sydney is the ideal stop here in the “Land Down Under”, and an amazing city to visit.

Get to know this amazing city with a stop at the Strand Arcade. Established in 1891, this is a beautiful historic site to see. This Victorian style building has a very rich history, still standing after two World Wars and two major fires. Now the Strand Arcade acts as a shopping center in the heart of Sydney. You may want to spend all day shopping or you can just relax with a cup of coffee and take in the beauty The Strand Arcade has to offer has to offer!

For great shopping and a lot of history you may also want to visit the Queen Victoria building. What is especially nice about the Queen Victoria Building is that they offer tours featuring the architecture and history of this beautiful building. The tour costs $15 and lasts about 45 minutes. From here, continue on foot to the Marble Bar and get a feel for the local vibe. All three of these buildings are located in Sydney on George Street and within walking distance.

You can’t visit Sydney without taking in the scenic splendor. For a simply amazing view of Sydney be sure to visit Mrs. MacQuarie’s chair. This bench was hand-carved by convicts in the early eighteen hundreds for Governor Macquarie’s wife Elizabeth. Here you can see beautiful views of the harbour and it is walking distance to the Royal Botanical Gardens– so don’t forget your camera! Next take a relaxing ride via water taxi for lunch at the Catalina Rose Bay. This amazing restaurant offers 180 degree views of the Sydney Harbour and has won several awards for its  incredible cuisine.

After lunch, pencil in a stop at the Potts Point neighborhood. This small and densely populated suburb gives a great taste of what local life is here as well the opportunity to experience this hot spot. If you have time, make sure to visit the Elizabeth Bay House. Built in the 1830’s this was once considered the “finest house in the colony”. It has since been turned into a museum.
