When is the best weather in Alaska to take a cruise?
If you’re thinking about taking a cruise or a cruisetour to Alaska, you’re in for an unforgettable experience. Alaska cruises and cruisetours are only available May – September each year. Alaska is beautiful all summer, so no matter what month you visit, you’re sure to enjoy gorgeous scenery and a wide range of of activities. But, there’s always that desire to experience the best of the best, especially when you’re trying to plan the cruise of a lifetime that includes stops in exciting destinations like Juneau and Skagway.
At CruiseExperts.com, we understand this concern. We want you to get the most out of your vacations dollars. We’re often asked the question, “When is the best weather in Alaska to take a cruise?,” to which we point out that weather is part of the Alaska experience. It’s often unpredictable but always spectacular. That’s why we recommend that you book your next Alaskan cruise or cruisetour with us during certain months of the year.
The most popular time to book your vacation to Alaska is between June and August. According to USA Today, these are the months that are considered high season, due in part to the fact that families are able to travel during this time when school is out for the summer. Temperatures typically range between 54 and 73 degrees Fahrenheit, which means that it’s perfect weather for virtually anything including horseback riding, fishing, hiking or taking a walking tour through one of Alaska’s historic towns.
Another benefit to taking a cruise to Alaska during this time frame is that there is sunlight at virtually all times of the day. That means, for example, you could be reading your favorite book out on the deck of your cruise ship at 1 in the morning!
However, although you may feel inclined to take your vacation in June or July, you should know that you can have just as great of a time if you go in May or even through the middle of September. Not only is the weather still mild enough to take advantage of all that Alaska has to offer, the cities are also likely to be far less crowded and the longer nights make it more likely you’ll have a chance to witness the famed Northern Lights.
Of course, this is simply meant to be as a guide when booking your trip to Alaska. Whether you reserve your vacation for September, May or July, you’re guaranteed to have a wonderful time.
