Cruise Lines Using Latest Techniques to Design New Cruise Ships

new cruise ships

Technology is constantly improving the sailing experience for cruise line guests.

New cruise ships depend on logistics to move supplies and people to where they need to be and on time. Technology is making major inroads into the cruise industry including the area of design.

The Ocean Medallion technology of Princess Cruise Lines will use the data provided to design new cruise ships in the future. New designs mean more comfortable accommodations, easier guest navigation throughout the ship, and better overall service for everyone.

Happy Traveler Comment
Hi Rachel. Thank you so much for making such great arrangements for our NCL Pearl cruise. Everything went so smoothly for boarding the ship in Miami, all the in-between happenings, and departing from the ship at the end of our cruise. We really appreciated your picking our cabin for convenience. It was about 10 steps from the elevators. The NCL Pearl is a beautiful ship and our cabin was tops. We had great service and met a lot of new people. Thank you again for your great reservation services. I'll be happy to recommend you to any of my friends who are looking to do a cruise. — Marcie

Uses for Technology in Princess Line’s New Cruise Ships

Technology monitors the movement of passengers onboard and identifies areas with pinch points and bottlenecks. This data allows Princess the opportunity to design a perfect ship in terms of passenger flow.

Tony Roberts Vice President UK & Europe for Princess Cruises explained the data received through the Ocean data allows for understanding passenger flows and dwell times in the same areas of the ship.

This provides opportunities for presenting guests with suggestions for activities in the immediate area as well as making it easier for them to navigate their way around the ship to dining, activity, and entertainment areas. Technology will provide new cruise ships to be designed with optimized onboard space.

Royal Caribbean’s New Cruise Ships Use Monitoring Technology

Exciting new technology allows Royal Caribbean to use a new passenger monitoring system that speeds up the passenger embarkation process. The data received helps design the perfect terminal.

Royal Caribbean is presently using the MFlow passenger tracking system to speed up the Barcelona, Spain embarkation process. This system allows Royal Caribbean to see how long it takes a person to get from one point to another.

Adam Sharp, Head of Business Development EMEA at Royal Caribbean explained that the system allows them to know with some certainty it takes “a suite guest two minutes to check-in, a general guest eight minutes to pass through.”
