Cruising for Couples: Our Top 5 Tips

romantic places to eatIt’s time to pack your bags and get ready for some much deserved R&R with your significant other. Perhaps you are newly married, looking to get away from parental duties for a few days or it’s time to enjoy time together after sending your kids off to college. No matter your reason, cruising for two can be a rewarding experience.

Here are some tips that can help make your time away better before you even set foot on the ship:

1.    For the BEST value, travel in the “off season”

This may seem counter-intuitive, but really presents great advantages when you are not bound by school breaks or set vacation schedules.

First and foremost, fares are usually lower during this time, so you can stretch your dollar a little further and really treat yourself to a great getaway.

Depending on the destination, the best “off season” months to travel are:

  • January
  • February
  • late April
  • early May
  • late September
  • October
  • early November
  • the week after Thanksgiving

In addition, most families will be back in school mode at these times. This means that your ship has a better chance of being less crowded and more adult-focused, something that most couples prefer when they are trying to relax on their vacation.

2. Plan Ahead

Even though off-season traveling is less crowded, this does not mean that you should book your cabin at the last minute! To ensure you get both prime location and your preferred room type, get your travel professional to book your cruise at least two to four months in advance. You’ll be happy you did.

3. Go Where You’ve Always Wanted to Go

Nowadays, cruises offer itineraries to a multitude of destinations, so don’t hold back! Make a list of places you’ve always wanted to visit and ask your travel professional what it would take to get there. They can easily provide you with the options that will fit your budget and offer you a truly amazing experience. After all, it’s your time to relax and have fun in a place that you love!

4. Pick an Adult-centric Cruise Line

If getting away from children and families is of utmost important to you, your travel professional can suggest a cruise line that caters to adults.

Personally, Celebrity Cruise is my favorite line for adults because of its modern luxury, award-winning cuisine and spectacular entertainment. Their Solstice Class ships (or Solsitized ships) are the most adult-friendly of all with activities like onboard wine tastings, the world-famous AquaSpa, guest speaker series, and the hot glass show. You will discover quickly that the Celebrity lifestyle offers 24 to the day and never a dull moment!

5. Treat Yourself to an Upgrade If You Can

If you are looking for a truly amazing experience with your significant other, I suggest booking a Concierge Class Veranda, AquaClass Veranda or above. These Concierge Class and AquaClass verandas and all suites offer early embarkation & disembarkation, priority check-in, welcome sparkling wine, fresh fruit & flowers, daily evening hors d’oeuvres, restaurant seating preferences, and oversized bath towels just to name a few. They have everything you need for a luxurious time!
