Cunard Line’s Queen Elizabeth will be adding a maiden port call, San Pablo de Manta, Ecuador, in 2018. Located almost directly on the equator, Manta is a shining city on Ecuador’s Pacific shoreline that offers historic treasures and a beautiful beach perfect for water sports. A short drive to nearby Montecristi takes you to tour the factory where the iconic hats mistakenly known as “Panama” hats are created. Glengarriff, Ireland
Starting June 3, 2017, Holland America Line’s Prinsendam will be adding a new port call, Bantry Bay and the village of Glengarriff, to its 14 Days Europe Coastal/British Isles cruise, departing June 3. Located at the gateway to the Ring of Beara on one of Ireland’s southwestern peninsulas, Glengarriff is a charming village, filled with small shops, eateries, and the lilting sounds of live music. This port on the bucolic Beara peninsula is certain to become a most popular cruise destination for history buffs, with fabulous excursions that include a visit to Molly Gallivan’s 200-year-old cottage and traditional farm, the mystical ruins of an ancient sun calendar, and a whimsical interpretive sculpture garden. Saranda, Albania
In the Spring, MSC Cruises’ MSC Poesia will call for the first time at the city of Saranda, the southernmost city in Albania. Located nine miles off the Greek isle of Corfu, Saranda port is close to the ruins of the ancient Greek, Roman, and Byzantine city of Butrint. Visitors to this UNESCO World Heritage Site can view an ancient Roman amphitheater, lion’s gate, and an enormous Byzantine basilica, second only to Istanbul’s Hagia Sophia. MSC is still adding expeditions to their Saranda port call, and expected trips include a Saranda city tour, tours of the Albanian countryside, and tours of the magnificent Stone City of Gjirokastra.
Monterey, California
Princess Cruises introduces a new port of call in 2017 at Monterey, California for its 7 day sailings from Los Angeles and 10 day cruises from Vancouver (on multiple ships). This port offers something for everyone, with a diverse offering of excursions that includes the world-renowned Pebble Beach Golf Course, Monterey Bay Aquarium, and picturesque Fisherman’s Wharf. History lovers will enjoy trips to the Old Spanish Mission and the Maritime Museum.
Bonaire, Caribbean
